Don’t forget! Christmas posting dates

If you haven’t sent them already, you are probably thinking about when you should post your Christmas cards and presents, especially if you may also need to update friends and family about your new address.

If you leave it too late, it’s possible your mail may not reach your loved ones in time for the big day. So to help you ensure your cards get there on time, Royal Mail have compiled a list of dates so you know when you need to post them by.

Sending cards within the UK

Tuesday, December 20: The last delivery day for Second Class post

Wednesday, December 21: The last day for First Class post.

Thursday, December 22: Last day for Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed

Friday, December 23: Last day for Special Delivery Saturday Guaranteed.


Last Christmas posting dates for Christmas for other companies

  • Collect+ have said that the last day for standard delivery before Christmas is Tuesday December 20. The cut-off for economy delivery has now passed.
  • DHL’s deadline is Wednesday December 21.
  • Hermes offer a money-back guarantee on parcels entering their network by 11.59pm on Wednesday December 21 bearing a UK mainland address. The network will make at least one delivery attempt before Christmas otherwise Hermes will refund the delivery charge.
  • Yodel’s recommended posting date for UK delivery is on or before Thursday December 22.
  • TNT will deliver parcels sent on Friday December 23 the following day, Christmas Eve.
  • Royal Mail has advised people to make sure they have clearly labeled envelopes with a return address on the back and that you should always use a postcode to ensure mail reaches its destination on time.
