The first cards are starting to arrive and you are probably thinking about when you should post your Christmas cards and presents, especially if you need to send out change of address cards at the same time!

If you leave it too late, it’s possible your mail may not reach your loved ones in time for the big day. So to help you ensure your cards get there on time, Royal Mail have compiled a list of dates so you know when you need to post them by.

Sending cards within the UK

Wednesday, December 20: The last delivery day for Second Class post

Thursday, December 21: The last day for First Class post and Royal Mail Delivery Guaranteed

Friday, December 22: Last day for Royal Mail Special Delivery Saturday Guaranteed

Last Christmas posting dates for Christmas for other companies

  • Collect+ have said that the last day for standard delivery before Christmas is Tuesday December 19 for standard service. The cut-off for economy delivery is Friday 15 December.
  • DHL’s deadline is Thursday December 21 for the UK. Wednesday 20 December for Europe
  • Hermes offer a money-back guarantee on parcels entering their network by 11.59pm on Thursday December 21 bearing a UK mainland address. The network will make at least one delivery attempt before Christmas otherwise Hermes will refund the delivery charge.
  • Yodel’s Wednesday 20 December for 72 hour delivery, Thursday 21 December for 48 hour delivery and Friday 22 December for 24 hour delivery.
  • TNT will deliver parcels sent on Friday December 22.
  • Royal Mail has advised people to make sure they have clearly labeled envelopes with a return address on the back and that you should always use a postcode to ensure mail reaches its destination on time.
