How NHBC HUG helps when you move in

Moving into a new home is a hectic process, but using NHBC HUG (Home User Guide) means that it doesn’t have to be a headache.

NHBC is offering free, online Home User Guides (HUGs) to every new homeowner in the UK with a Buildmark warranty and insurance policy that we have details for. It’s a secure, online portal that can contain information that’s specific to your new home, from energy rating certificates and instruction manuals for your oven to plain-English guides about looking after solar panels.

Up-to-date information when you need it

Because HUGs are online, you’ll have up-to-date information available when you need it. Once the details have been added to the system, if you are out shopping you can quickly check HUG to see if that lampshade you’ve spotted will go with the wallpaper in your hall.

All your Buildmark warranty and insurance information

You can use your HUG to confirm your details and acknowledge your Buildmark warranty and insurance policy. Once that’s done, your HUG will have full information about the Buildmark policy that covers your home for ten years after the first owner moves in.

We know that you can be bombarded with information when you are moving in to a new home. Having the details of Buildmark on a HUG gives you a better opportunity to understand your policy, as well as its limits and exclusions, because you can digest the information at your leisure. We want to ensure that you understand how much cover you have when you move into your new home and know what and how you can claim under the policy.

It only takes a couple of seconds to acknowledge that your details are correct or add new details if appropriate, but if you need to make a claim against your Buildmark policy, you can use HUG to get through to the right person to start the process of getting things fixed. All you need to do is confirm or add your details and login.

It’s easy to keep your HUG up-to-date – whether it’s you or your builder doing it!

If your builder is working with us to develop your HUG, they can use the system to keep you up-to-date with advice as you settle into your new home. Having a HUG means that you can come back to things when you are ready, without having to try and remember where you put the leaflet about bin collections or the manual for your thermostat. Your builder might well have put the information you need into your HUG, but it’s also a very easy job to add to it yourself, storing the manual for your new television alongside the instructions for your dishwasher.

HUG has been developed to help you settle into your new home, giving you the information you need to make sure the process is as stress-free as possible.
