Consumer protection for new home buyers

by on Friday 26 September, 2014 in New Homes

Since April 2010, house builders registered with a new home warranty provider like NHBC have had to comply with the Consumer Code for Home Builders when marketing and selling new or newly converted homes.

What’s the Code for?

Set up by NHBC and the other new home warranty providers, the Code aims to ensure that all new home buyers:

  • are treated fairly at all times
  • are given reliable information about their purchase and their consumer rights before and after they move in
  • know what service levels to expect
  • know how to access the speedy, low-cost dispute resolution scheme.

Best practice in new home sales

The Code reinforces best practice among house builders to make sure the level of information and customer service provided to you is consistently high. It builds on successful efforts already made by the industry to improve consumer satisfaction in recent years.
