How NHBC HUG helps after you move in

As you settle into your new home, NHBC HUG (Home User Guide) can help you store information so you can quickly find it when you need it.

NHBC’s HUG is a free, secure, online portal that’s offered to every new home in the UK with a Buildmark warranty and insurance policy that we have details for. A HUG can be packed with information that will help you relax and enjoy your new home.

Never forget a boiler service again!

With a HUG, you can easily set up reminder emails that let you know when you need to carry out basic maintenance on your home. You don’t need to scratch your head wondering whether you had the boiler serviced last year or the year before, just follow the simple steps in your HUG and set-up a reminder for yourself.

Get the most from your new home technology

We’ve also added a set of plain-English guides that will help you understand and get the best out of your ventilation, heating and energy systems. They explain what the systems do and guide you through simple steps that can help you keep them in tip-top condition and providing the most benefit for your home. If there’s anything more complex that you want to change as the years go by, we’ve also integrated HUG with Trustmark to help you find the right trade or service.

All your appliance manuals in one, easy-to-access place

HUGs also give you a place to store all the manuals that used to take up that space on top of the microwave. If your builder worked with us on your HUG while your home was being built, it could already be populated with manuals for your white goods, but even if your builder didn’t work with us on a HUG for your home, you can easily add and remove manuals yourself. You’ll never have to hunt down the manual for the vacuum cleaner or spend time wondering why you’ve kept the instructions for a toaster that you replaced four years ago.

Full details about your Buildmark warranty and insurance policy

And of course HUG also has full details of the Buildmark warranty and insurance policy that protects a new home during its first ten years. Having the details of Buildmark on the HUG system helps ensure that you can understand your policy, as well as its limits and exclusions. We want to make sure that you know what cover your property has and how you can claim under the policy.

Because the system is online, it always has the most up-to-date information so that if you do need to make a claim, you can get the process moving as quickly as possible. To acknowledge your Buildmark policy and activate your HUG, all you need to do is confirm your details and login. (We don’t sell your details on so you will not receive sales calls from third parties as a result of acknowledging your Buildmark policy).

Pass on your HUG if you sell your home

HUG can also help you if you decide to sell your home. You can simply reassign your HUG to the people buying your home and let them decide how they want to use it.

We’ve developed HUG to help you run your home smoothly and efficiently for the long-term.

If your new home was developed by an NHBC registered builder but you don’t already have a HUG, you can activate it and find out more here.
