How NHBC HUG helps before you move in

There’s a lot to sort out before you move into a new home. Using NHBC HUG (Home User Guide) can make it easier to manage.

Every new home in the UK with a Buildmark warranty and insurance policy can have a secure, online Home User Guide (HUG). It’s a free portal where you can store all the information you need about your home.

A personalised HUG from your builder

A lot of builders are working with us to deliver HUGs to homeowners directly. If the team creating your home is creating HUGs for your development, the chances are that you’ll be sent the login details as soon as you have put down the deposit for your new home. Once you’ve signed in to your HUG, you’ll see that your builder may have added information such as floor plans and details of fixtures, fittings and finishes.

Simple, intuitive information and guidance

If your builder isn’t using HUG yet, it’s not a problem. We’ve designed the system to be really simple and intuitive. You’ll still find lots of useful information and guidance in your HUG, and it’s easy to add any details you need to store about your home so you’ve got it all when you need it.

Once the information about your home has been added, you can use your HUG to make sure that sofa you’ve got your eye on will match your colour schemes and, importantly, actually fit in your living room. You could even order it before you move in so it’s ready just after you collect your keys.

Handy HUG moving-in checklist

HUG also helps as your moving in date approaches. It includes a clear check list that covers what you need to do to ensure that moving in is a smooth process. You can check-off steps as they are completed and make sure that you’ve got all the right information in the right place.

Information on your Buildmark warranty and insurance

HUGs also contain up-to-date information about the NHBC Buildmark warranty and insurance policy that could protect your deposit in the event of builder insolvency. We want to make sure that you know how much cover you have before you commit to your new home and know what and how you can claim under the policy. Having the details of Buildmark on a HUG helps ensure that you can understand your policy, its limits and its exclusions.

Buildmark can be protecting your deposit as soon as you’ve put it down. With HUG, the process of acknowledging your Buildmark policy couldn’t be simpler: you simply login to the system, check that your details are correct and acknowledge the policy.

Buying a house can be a complicated process, but having a HUG can help you stay on track.
